Operating system software is in charge of managing the use of computer resources and provides an interface
for users to access those resources.
FUNCTION
The functions of an operating system in general can be seen in Figure 4.2.
• User interface
This function is a function of the most easily recognized by users because it is through this function the user can interact with the operating system, hardware or other software. The operating system is basically waiting for input or instructions from the user and then translate those commands in a language understood by computers. User interface to be a place for users to write or deliver the order
Broadly speaking there are two models of the user interface is a Command Line Interface (CLI) and Graphical User Interface (GUI). CLI provides facilities for users to give commands in text form while the GUI is more based on the graphical display. Today nearly all modern operating systems provide a model of the GUI as the user interface. Some provide a GUI that is integrated with the operating system kernel, for example, on Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OS versions earlier. While others provide a GUI that is modular, that is not integrated directly in the operating system kernel, such as Unix, Linux and Mac OS X p.
